Dan Harder

Secretary

Biography

A Strong Voice for Members:  Dan Harder for UCP Board Secretary

My wife and I live on a farm near Didsbury, where we raised our three daughters. And now, we cheer on our three hockey-playing grandsons.

Rooted in Alberta’s Land and Law:

I grew up on a mixed farm in Central Alberta, where I gained firsthand experience in grain production, commercial beef, feedlot and dairy operations.  This hands-on background provided me with an invaluable work ethic.  In 1986, our family shifted direction, and I began my university journey.  I earned my Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree from the University of Calgary, receiving the Coutts Family Graduate Award, and then completed my law degree.

I was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1994 and spent the next three decades practicing law in Central Alberta as one of the founding Partners of MHR Law LLP.  My commitment to sharing knowledge extended to the classroom, where I taught agricultural law courses at Olds College for 10 years as well as history courses at Rocky Mountain College.

Experience in Governance and Policy:

I have a proven record of experience both in community and within the UCP structure:

Political Governance:

  • I am a founding member of the UCP;
  • I have served as a board member on the Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills Constituency Association (“ODT CA”);
  • I have held the role of Chairperson of the ODT CA Policy Committee; and
  • I have been a member of the UCP Policy and Governance Committee.

Community Leadership:

  • I have served as a board member of the Olds Historical Society;
  • I served on the Olds Koinonia Christian School Board for 13 years, primarily as Chairperson;
  • I am a founding member of Mountain View Freedom
  • I am a founding member and current director of MVF Community Care Society; and
  • Proudly host the annual Didsbury Show-n-Shine.

My Commitment:

My diverse experience has equipped me with the skills necessary to serve as your next UCP Board Secretary.  I offer a commitment to listening to our Membership and using the secretary position to effectively communicate your concerns to caucus.

UNITED we can continue to build a Strong and Free Alberta.
