United Conservatives are taking action to make life simpler and protect the integrity of our democracy. Starting in 2026, every new and renewed driver’s licence and ID card will include proof of Canadian citizenship.
That means one secure card that confirms both identity and citizenship. Families will no longer need to carry multiple documents to access services. And by including citizenship on ID, United Conservatives are making sure only eligible citizens vote, keeping Alberta’s elections fair and secure.
This reform comes at no extra cost. It is a simple, common-sense change that delivers stronger security and real convenience for Albertans.
United Conservatives are also modernizing identification by adding health care numbers to driver’s licences in 2026. Today there are more health care cards than people living in the province. This change will protect taxpayers and safeguard the system from waste and abuse.
Once again, United Conservatives are leading. With stronger ID, we are protecting elections, improving services, and delivering results that matter for Albertans.
NEW: Alberta will be the first province to add a Canadian citizenship marker to driver’s licences and ID cards, strengthening Alberta’s election system and protecting the integrity of our democratic process by ensuring that only eligible citizens cast ballots.
