The Courage to Listen Town Hall

Picture the vast, untamed wilderness of Alberta, its horizon punctuated by the majestic Rockies, its soil brimming with oil and gas reserves that fuel the nation’s economy; farms and ranches that feed the nation. Yet, this prosperous province, a bastion of Canada’s strength, finds itself in the shadow of a system that seems to overlook its contributions.

Our resources, the lifeblood of the nation, have been pumped across the country, filling the coffers of governments that often seem indifferent to our plight. The spirit of the Alberta Sovereignty Act, or Bill 1, is not one of secession, but rather a declaration of intent to reshape this union, to demand a seat at the table where decisions are made, and to ensure that the fruits of our labor are not merely handed out as alms to those who do not understand the sweat and toil that goes into their creation. It is a call to weave our sovereign rights into the very fabric of our Province, to forge a destiny that honors our heritage and empowers our future.

The concept of a Sovereign Alberta within a united Canada is not a new one, but it is one that has gained a new urgency in the face of growing centralization and disregard for Provincial autonomy. For too long, Albertans have watched as their hard-earned dollars are redistributed through a system that seems rigged against them, a system that takes without giving back in kind.

As we embark on this journey, let us consider the possibilities of what a Sovereign Alberta could achieve. A future where taxation is not a burden but an investment in our collective well-being, a future where the prosperity of our land is matched by the prosperity of our people. By reducing taxes by 50%, we could unleash a new era of entrepreneurial spirit, allowing families and businesses to flourish without the heavy hand of government interference. This is not a pipe dream but a tangible goal that requires a clear and deliberate shift in government policy.

Alberta has a proud history as a prosperous, free and entrepreneurial society. We are resource rich and people strong. Since 1904 Alberta the relationship between Alberta and Canada has been transactional meaning Alberta sends the financial benefits of our resources to Upper Canada. Alberta generates 20% of Canada’s GDP; yet, Ottawa flagrantly disregards the people of Alberta because we don’t make an electoral difference.

Financial benefits generated by Albertans are used against Alberta through inequitable equalization. Albertans are overtaxed; their Federal taxes give over $15 billion to Quebec; yet, Quebec does not want to support the means to Alberta prosperity – just collect the cheque.

Building a Framework: Bill 1, popularly called the “Alberta Sovereignty Act” is the impetus for Albertans to create a roadmap and a framework for a sovereign Alberta within a united Canada. How do we build a framework for a Sovereign Alberta within a united Canada so that Alberta weaves its sovereign rights into our Provincial fabric? Who doesn’t want a prosperous Alberta which culturally rewards hard working families and entrepreneurs?

• What could the future look like?
• How can we reduce taxation by 50% for Albertans?
• What are the steps necessary to claim a sovereign Alberta?
• What would an Alberta Constitution look like?
• Is it time for a new Request For Proposal to reclaim the Alberta Advantage?

Let’s begin the conversation to create a framework for a SOVEREIGN ALBERTA within a United Canada.

The time is now.
