More doctors means more options when you or your family need care. As of June 30, Alberta had a record 14,156 fully registered physicians. That’s 1,226 more than a year earlier, the largest one-year increase on record.
Every health zone grew, with more family doctors and more specialists. It’s not just Calgary and Edmonton. Communities across the North, Central and South zones are gaining physicians too, and Alberta added about 510 family physicians over the past year.
What does that mean for you? More ways to get care, through walk-in clinics, urgent care centres and other community practices. Many clinics in larger cities offer same-day appointments, and some are accepting new patients into ongoing care.
Those results follow real investment. Budget 2026 provided a record $7.7 billion for physician recruitment, training, compensation and development in 2026-27, the largest investment in physician funding in Alberta’s history. Premier Danielle Smith and your United Conservative government made access to care a priority, because Albertans expect to see a doctor when they need one. We’ll keep working with our partners to train, recruit and retain more physicians.
More doctors, more ways to get care and record funding for physicians. That’s your United Conservative government getting the job done for Albertans.
Our government continues to see significant growth in our physician workforce, with a record 14,156 physicians now registered to practice across Alberta.
