Alberta is growing faster than any other province. Families are choosing Alberta in record numbers, and that means more children in classrooms every year. Our United Conservative government is stepping up to make sure every student has the space and support they need to succeed.
Through the new School Construction Accelerator Program, our United Conservative government is investing $8.6 billion to create more than 200,000 new and modernized student spaces across the province over the next seven years. That means shovels in the ground faster, classrooms opening sooner, and real relief for crowded schools.
Starting in 2025, the program will deliver up to 30 new schools and as many as eight modernizations or replacements every year for the next three years. Another 20,000 spaces will come from modular classrooms to meet urgent needs. In total, 50,000 new and modernized spaces will be available within three years, and 150,000 more will follow.
This is the largest school-building commitment in Alberta’s history. It includes new public, separate, and charter schools, with 12,500 new spaces in charter schools alone. Our United Conservative government is also exploring new options for non-profit independent schools, giving parents more choice in education.
The program will speed up approvals so projects can move forward without waiting for the next budget cycle. Ten previously announced schools are already moving ahead, including six going straight into construction.
This investment is not only about classrooms. School construction supports tens of thousands of jobs across Alberta, boosting local economies while meeting the needs of a rapidly growing population.
United Conservatives are proving that when it comes to students and families, action comes first. We are building the schools Alberta needs now and securing the spaces students will need tomorrow.
