Life is expensive, and Alberta families are feeling it. That’s why your United Conservative government is focusing this fall’s sitting of the legislature on what matters most to people: keeping more money in your pocket, keeping your family safe, and making sure our hospitals and schools keep up with a growing province.
Lower costs for families
Alberta workers earn the highest average weekly wages in the country, but too many families are still feeling squeezed. This fall, your United Conservative government will bring forward changes to help bring down the cost of auto insurance and better protect Albertans on their utility bills.
Protecting Albertans and what they’ve built
Albertans should be able to count on fair rules and real consequences for anyone who breaks them. Plans this fall include:
- Hiring in the public sector based on merit.
- Stronger protection for data centre development in Alberta.
- Tougher fines, and possible jail time, for illegal dumping.
- Protection from ticket resellers and from defective vehicles.
- Parents being told when something happens at their child’s licensed daycare.
- Clear rules on bike lanes, so roads work for the communities that use them.
- Protection from anyone who shares, or threatens to share, digitally altered intimate images.
- Harsher consequences for unsafe driving and more accountability for commercial truck drivers.
- Protecting free speech on college and university campuses.
- Child sexual exploitation laws updated to keep up with today’s risks.
- Stronger protection for Albertans’ personal information.
Getting people the help they need
Some Albertans are so deep in addiction that they’re a danger to themselves or others. Compassionate intervention will help get them life-saving treatment, and work this fall will make sure the program is ready to launch in 2027. Changes will also make it easier for people to get mental health care.
Schools that keep up with a growing province
Alberta has added more than 90,000 students in four years. Families need to know their kids’ schools are keeping pace. This fall’s plans bring more accountability, more transparency and report cards parents can understand and compare. That builds on a record $10.8 billion for education this year, up more than seven per cent, to hire more teachers, add classroom support and build more classrooms.
Building a stronger Alberta
Albertans told us what matters to them. Your United Conservative government is getting the job done, so Alberta stays the best place to live, work and raise a family.
